Hub #6 - If I Had A Chance To Minister To President Obama, What Would I Say?

The President, Politics, The Preacher
Six days ago I began this exciting hub writing marathon that I've called, "30 Days To 30 Hubs." To be sure I knew it would be a challenge (I'm only six days into this thing), so I solicited some most welcome help from my hubber friends and asked for some topic suggestions. My new friend, Lady Summerset, gave this marvelous idea. She posed the question, "If you had the opportunity to minister to President Barak Obama, what would you say?" After several days of pondering this thought, this is my sincere and prayerful response.
To have been elected President of the United States of America, the highest office in the land, holds both great privilege and great responsibility. I can only imagine how a president must feel when he walks for the first time into the oval office as head of state, sitting behind that massive desk, knowing that now the election is over, the campaign buttons have been put away and the weight of that most auspicious office begins. The Constitution, The Declaration of Independence, to the halls of Congress, the profound history of our country's founding fathers and his predecessors, men like George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, resonates like a crash of a thousand canons reminding us all, "One Nation, Under God."
I'm sure each time he hears "The Star Spangled Banner" or recites "The Pledge of Allegiance" he is reminded of who we are and what we stand for. America was formed in the fire of freedom that was not and is not free. The men and women who have paid and continue to pay the supreme price of their lives do so in order to secure the democracy that we so love and must never take for granted. People from all over the world have come and see the Statue of Liberty and America as a beacon of opportunity and enterprise.
There is so much said about "Separation of Church and State" and for some they have made it a source of great contention and confusion. The fact is our forefathers were men of courage and faith (Now I'm talking about the ones in the real history books, not the newly fabricated ones). They loved God and held tenaciously to their beliefs relying on His help in the birth of our nation. Our history, anchored in the Judeo-Christian faith, is both glorious and inspiring.
Now President Obama with quill in hand begins to write his chapter in our history. If I had the opportunity to minister to him, what would I say? In my response, I must also incorporate what I would do.
I Would Consider It To Be A Divine Appointment
To have the opportunity to be a prophetic voice in the life of a President would be a "God-thing" so I would have an understanding that I was on assignment.
I Would Use My Time Wisely
Knowing that a president's time is filled with appointments, summits, meetings, events, etc., if I had an audience with him I would not waste those moments sealed by destiny.
I Would Represent Christ and All That He Stands For
There is no higher authority, no greater truth, no deeper love, no stronger power, no other solution to the vicissitudes of life and the global challenges that are facing this nation than can be found in the Christ of the Cross. I would share that message with President Barak Obama.
I Would Encourage Him To Read The Bible Daily
The Bible is not some antiquated piece of irrelevant literature for the weak and the mindless, it is the living Word of God. It is totally accurate and will give our president real and relevant information that he can use today. It is so powerful that it will tell him, not only where we've been, where we are, but where we are going. If our President wants the favor and continued blessings of God on this nation, I would remind Him to read the Word of God personally and regularly in order for the God of the Word to reveal to him how he should successfully and effectively lead the United States of America. It will guide him and show him how to govern prudently. It will give him wisdom in the decision making process regarding the Middle East and our foreign policy. The Bible would give President Obama direction and information regarding our economy and how best to be a prosperous nation, being a lender and not a borrower.
I Would Encourage Him To Guard Tenaciously Who He Allows in His Circle of Influence
My grandmother used to say, "Diane, we are known by the company we keep. So always make sure you keep good company." How true. Those who speak into his life must also understand the depth, the magnitude and the meaning of democracy that has been founded in Biblical truth. Many have left other countries of the world because they found something better here. Why be a mirror of other nations when we can maintain the greatness that attracted others in the first place? I would ask him to take a careful look at those who advise him and make sure they are a reflection of the real America that he has sworn to defend.
I Would Assure Him that I Am Praying For Him
The Bible clearly teaches us that we are to pray for our leaders. I would assure President Obama that I am praying for he and his family. I am praying that God will grant him wisdom beyond his years. I am praying that God will protect both he and his family from all harm and danger. I am praying that they will find a church that will surround them with love and a pastor that will preach the good news of Jesus Christ. I am praying that he will lead this country back to the strong Biblical foundations we were built upon. I am praying that he will renew America's commitment to life (all life, including the unborn), liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I am praying that once again the moral moorings that have held this nation secure for so long would be renewed and restored. I am praying that he will lift high the message of the home being a safe place for our children, with mom and dad taking their rightful places and the schools would once again teach reading, writing and arithmetic.
I Would Then Take My Leave Knowing That God Is Still In Control
Presidents may come and they may go. Congressmen and women may come and they may go. The process of democracy works. They are voted in and sometimes they are voted out. Sometimes their political time clock runs out and their tenure is completed. But Christ remains as "King of Kings and Lord of Lords." Of His kingdom there shall be no end.

I believe you would be a great influence on the president, Diane. It seems the very opposite of your hub's advice is what the president is doing. I'm sure that is why you chose those things to say. He has chosen to believe and encompass the very worst of the influences of the achademia of his past. He epitomizes what is taught and retaught to our children in the schools of higher learning today. This is what our kids are now believing when they are "educated". He should be studied now and after he leaves office because of the classic example of how we have let our institutions of higher learning become cesspools of thought with no God in it. Thank you for your heart. My pastor knows people with an intimate knowledge of the White House. He has said from the first day of this administration that there are people who are around Him that are witnessing to him and trying to lend the proper advice to him. He doesn't seem to be listening but no Scripture comes back void. I think in my heart that the intent of all of this administration is to pay reparations for America's sin of slavery. I sincerely do. I think he's wanted this opportunity for many years. He got as high on the educational ladder as was necessary to get there. He made all the connections and told many people of his plans. He found the ones that listened the hardest and paid the most money were ones that also had similar and even more radical agendas. He really needs our prayers. His quest for justice for some of the people of our great country is going to hurt all of the people of our great country including people of color. Love you sister.
Pastor Diane
Many people would love to "tell the President a thing or two," and really just want to criticize and berate but you have provided a balanced and wise plan that is thoughtfully encased in the love of Christ. Wouldn't it be lovely if you had the opportunity? Thanks for your post :)

Greetings My Dear Pastor:
Words fail to adequately tell you how I feel about this hub. I knew it was a challenge to respond for the best of us. However, as people of God do, we rise to the occassion and complete the mission assigned with dignity, peace, and power!
Your words cut through the flesh allowing you to look beyond the actions -- what we see -- into the divine purpose of the vessel, our President. He, like all great men and women has been ordained by the God we say we serve. I believe that He does not make a mistake but guides our course.
As christians, we must move beyond what the eyes see, hear, and feel into what God desires. We pray for the President and those in authority. We pray for our nation and its people. I pray that we, each individual, heed your message. What rings in my spirit is: If my people, who are called by MY name, HUMBLE themselves, pray, seek MY face and turn from their wicked ways -- then will I hear from heaven, heal their land!
I read your hub to my husband and he said that he gives you a presidential salute! I sincerely pray that God ordains you audience with the President.
It's a honor to be a friend of such an Woman, appointed to the Nation! I applaud the gift in you, Woman of God!
very Good and full of wisdom. It's an interesting question. I think I would find it hard to be as gracious as you seem to be. I especially like the part about asking him to read the bible. recently when i was in the book of... Kings? maybe? geez, I forget. Anyway, I learned that Israels kings were required to read Gods Word! If only.... eh?
Amazingly mature spirituality you exhibited in your response to the question portrayed. Your last 'headline' tells it all, for whether President Obama would listen or not, God IS in control. This was an intriguing read, as my own thoughts tried to pop up...but he won't...he wouldn't...
Ahh, but you would have accomplished your task, and that was the purpose...
A great answer-hub, and thank you for sharing it.
Sitting here pondering your response to the question; the thought has come to me that though we may not get to speak to President Obama face to face, we can and I know you do, pray 'for' him. But we can "speak" to him in the Spirit. i had never really thought about that before. We can prophecy to him by speaking what the Spirit would say to him right from where we are. Like this: "President Barack Obama, I call you forth out of the darkness and into the kingdom of LIGHT, I call you forth out of the darkness and into the kingdom of the Son of God, Jesus Christ. I wonder what changes we might see if we took our authority in Christ to do so.

I hope that President Obama will read your hub, Pastor! What very wise words ~ heartfelt truth. I really enjoyed this and feel as you do, representative of most if not all "Christ of the Cross" Americans.
